Q: How would you describe your perspective on the Internet?
Well, I think the internet is a pretty amazing tool for pretty much anything, even in this age of misinformation and rage, you can still get a lot of entertainment and learning from it, I personally use it more for the former :)))
Q: What does it mean to be online? Can it sometimes be bad? And why?
I suppose you could say "being online" means to pay a good amount of attention to what happens in your space, or other people's spaces of internet interaction. By that definition, it isn't inherently bad, but spending way too much time fixated on the stuff that goes on can definitely be pretty bad, especially if it's a negative space!
Q: The story behind your name: xanxoepico
Old nickname I got from my friends, I used to be called "Chancho" ("pig" in my dialect of spanish) when I was younger, me and friends had a bunch of dumb nicknames for each other, and that was mine, so I ran along with it for years, and when it came to choosing a name for my newgrounds account, I chose this one (after a pretty shitty alias before...) which combines an odd spelling of the word (xanxo) with the spanish word for epic (épico). And that's the separation! XANXO-EPICO, LIKE CHANCHO-ÉPICO, EPIC-PIG BABYYY!!!
Q: What is NG, how did you find it? And why did you join?
Newgrounds.com is a cool ass website where you can find all sorts of content, be it moving or still pictures, games, music, and more! I initially joined under a different alias back in 2018, trying to do that stupid thing of uploading a song from youtube to use it on GD (don't do that kids! It's against the rules of the site!!). Then, in late 2022, I made this account (initially called monoconchetumare) to follow some people whose content I liked, and around the same time I got a taste for music production, and found newgrounds to be the best place to start as it offered a quick method of upload, and reviews too!
Q: How did you get interested in creating music?
Friday Night Funkin', more specifically, I used to be part of the "cover" community from september 2021 to around june or october 2022, a cover was essentially replacing the vocal track of a song with the voice of another base game or mod character, a pretty simple, yet at the time engaging concept! I got a decent amount of attention with my shitty covers, but then I came to the realization that, if I had this cool FL Studio 20 DAW, I could do much more than just use it for these little covers! So for my first serious composition, I took a look at the FLP of "Voltage", a song made by Matt$ (mattmoney on NG) for his FNF mod Vs. Cyrix, and made a fansong for the character, taking a bunch of elements from his own song "Voltage" (I'm talking the entire break and key of the song LMAO...), I later remade it and uploaded to NG as "Allocated Memories", the old version is on a twitter link I left there! There's also my friend sparkymessi, who if I remember correctly was learning to compose at around the same time and encouraged me to learn and keep going with music, so you could say those 2 were my kickstarters to music production!
Q: Your advice for making music
Listen to a lot of music, pay attention to the small details and subtleties, and try to learn WHY do things in songs sound the way they do, how they are made, etc. The more you familiarize yourself with a genre, the easier it will be to make your own songs off it.
Q: What was it like to organise your Break It Up Collab
BREAK. IT. UP! It personally wasn't such a hard task, because I was pretty lax with the requisites and amounts of songs I wanted, I wasn't looking for a specific quantity so, even if I had a small number of submissions, I would've been happy with them. Imagine my surprise when I ended up with 18 TRACKS SUBMITTED, I was thrilled! Admittedly, the last few days of the collab's organization were a bit more crazy, because I got a lot of submissions a few days before and during the deadline, someone even got in late!! So I had to edit the files, timestamps and stuff last minute, before I could finally upload, and watch with a dumb smile on my face as the months of waiting had finally come to an end...
Q: What is a collab?
Collab stands for collaboration, where many people work together to make a compilation of media related to a certain topic or theme, I mostly participate in audio collabs, which generally are put together like an album of sorts for the uploaded file, but there are collabs for every part of newgrounds' content!
Q: What are reviews? And what function do they serve?
A review is a commentary of your thoughts and opinions on something, they serve to provide criticism, praise, or often random comments to the author. We also got blamming in here, for those who make really, really bad stuff!!
Q: Your advice for life
I don't have enough experience to give very wise advice, but perhaps I could say, to cherish moments of comfort, and search for instances and ways to make them more frequent? at least that's what I try to put effort for in my life, sort of.
Thanks for interviewing me man!
